This may be surprising but I am a huge fan of the Fast franchise and have been since the beginning. I would actually say apart from Harry Potter it’s my favourite film series. I think they are films with great action but also make you really care about the characters. They really do give you that sense of family. That being said, I think this is my least favourite. Apart from the 3rd one (but I try to forget about that).
When it was first announced they would continue with the franchise I was slightly worried. Paul Walker was such a big part of its success for me and I thought the send off they gave him and closure it had in Fast 7 was a great way to end the series. However I came into this movie ready to be entertained and I was not disappointed. I know it has come a long way from the drag racing and features a lot more combat and guns. But I love that they still manage to keep it about the cars and come up with creative ways to utilise cars in the action scenes. This film is particularly epic for that. Plus we finally get a female antagonist and Charlize Theron is great.
I also love how they have managed to integrate the storylines, bringing back your favourite characters but without seeming stale. However this storyline seemed slightly cheesy to me and didn’t fully grip me. I can’t seem to put my finger on why that is but I didn’t come out of the cinema feeling awe-struck and like I could drive my car so fast I could jump between two buildings (I don’t recommend that). I just felt like ‘oh that was a good film, whats for food?.’ I also feel like there is now too many comedic/silly characters and as much as I love the laughs, It feels like with this team they just couldn’t pull off these things. I must also say I am not a huge fan of ‘Ramsey’ (played by Nathalie Emmanuel) her character doesn’t really add much to the franchise and her acting seems weak compared to the others.
Overall I did really enjoy the film and have seen many people claiming its the best film of the year so far, so maybe I’m just over analysing. If you love the Fast Franchise you will love this and believe me ‘Brian O’conner lives on.
Worst bits: The casting of Caleb Landry Jones as Jeremy Armitage
I was lucky enough to see an advanced screening of ‘Get Out’ thanks to movie geeks UK.
I have to say my review might be slightly bias as the atmosphere in the screening was amazing and I’m not convinced you will get that same reaction in a normal cinema.
I was super excited to see this film after watching the trailer, if I’m honest its the best trailer I’ve seen in a long time. However it did leave me with a feeling of what is this? Is it a horror? is it a comedy? After researching I realised it was a dark comedy so take that how you will no spoilers here.
For once I actually struggled with what was the worst part so this time I had to go with casting. Its not that CLJ was bad, I just could of done without him in it. Well actually his character definitely had to be in it he just didn’t need to play him. He’s not an actor I’ve seen before but there was just something that annoyed me about him. As you can probably tell I’m really stretching for a worst part.
The film is perfectly jumpy even making the grown men next me throw their popcorn in the air and thats all you really need from a horror. The storyline is very consistent and doesn’t lag in any parts which is great. I feel there is not much I can say about the film without spoiling anything all I will say is GO AND SEE IT! You will not be disappointed.
Christian Grey has finally got his stubble back! When Jamie Dornan was cast in this role I was so excited, I had seen him in other things and thought he was very sexy sexy and then ‘fifty shades of grey’ was released and they had shaved his beard. LIVID. Well never fear the beard is back and he’s is looking much more like Mr Grey.
I must confess I have read the all the books and even though I would never say they were my favourite books, they are a nice easy read. I was very disappointed with the first film as, like most people, I felt they had no chemistry, I don’t even think they liked each other. I feel like with this film they have been told to find a way to get on and whatever they did it worked. You really feel like they have a connection and it makes the film a much easier watch and 100% more enjoyable.
The other things that lacked in the first one was the amount of sex. How can you make a film predominately about sex and have so little of it in there? Well never fear this film makes up for it. Lots of naked bodies (I must point out Dakota Johnson’s body is BANGING!) and lots of sexual moments which do make you feel uneasy and a little red in the face whilst watching but I think thats what should happen. Its a film you want to feel uncomfortable in.
The only part I didn’t enjoy was the appearance from the ‘ring girl’ (not really but if you have seen the trailer you will know what I mean) It just felt like for a slight moment I had started watching a horror, luckily it doesn’t go on for too long .
Overall I think its a good film and a huge improvement from the first one. If you were put off after watching the first one I recommend giving this one a chance, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.
I went in to this movie with quite high expectations. The trailer looked great and my boyfriend is a big fan of the game.
I feel like now is good time to point out my boyfriend LOVES comic books n LOVE LOVE LOVES superhero films and he has made me a bit of a CBG (Comic Book Geek). When we come out of those films I beg him to give me the back story because I just want to know EVERYTHING. However with this film when he started to explain I realised right there and then how little I actually cared.
I can’t remember the last time I watched a film and genuinely didn’t understand the story or the characters..(I’d like to point out Inception was very easy to understand for me)..So for me to not get this film didn’t really make any sense. I felt like instead of spelling things out for the audience they did a more ‘nudge nudge wink wink’ aimed at the players of the game but that made no sense to me. They also skimmed over so many points that you would think were important.
Overall I was very upset with this movie as I went in with quite high expectations. Im sad this was the first movie I saw in 2017. The saving grace was defiantley the fight scenes and look of the film. Also the COSTUMES were INSANE. Defo know who I’m going to be for Comic Con This Year!
